Free car check answers
The free check is for someone shortlisting a UK car. It includes MOT history, Tax or SORN status, MOT mileage timeline, Vehicle details, VehicleScore® /999. No account is required. Outstanding finance, stolen markers, write-off category and salvage records are not included. VehicleScore does not publish a ranking of the best free car check.
Hidden History is the paid full vehicle history check at £13.95. Consumer packs are 2 for £16.95, 3 for £19.95, 5 for £25.95. Service history is separate at £8.95. Before you buy, use the free check for identity, MOT, tax and mileage, then Hidden History if those risk records matter. A blank paid section means no matching record was returned. How to use the VehicleScore® free car check
- Enter the registration.
- Confirm the vehicle details match the car you are looking at.
- Review the MOT history, tax or SORN status, mileage and VehicleScore®.
- If you are considering buying the vehicle, upgrade to Hidden History for the additional risk records.
Use the free result while you are speaking to the seller. If they say the MOT passed last month and the history shows a fail, ask them before you travel.
If you are buying the car
The free check tells you what the vehicle is and whether the MOT, tax and mileage records look consistent. It does not show whether a lender still has an interest in it, whether it has been recorded stolen, or whether an insurer or salvage auction has a record against it.
Hidden History can add outstanding finance, stolen markers, insurance write-off and salvage history, where the provider returns those records. Dealer service records are a separate service history check. The paid report includes £10,000 Experian data cover. Terms, eligibility and claim limits apply.
You do not need an account to run the free check. Sign in if you want to save a car. The score page also has a Share button that copies a link to that check.
